You've found a piece of furniture you love, made in Japan. Then the doubt creeps in: what's it actually going to cost to get it to me — and will customs hit me with a bill I didn't expect?
It's a fair worry. With most international furniture purchases, shipping and import duties are a black box — sometimes landing as a surprise invoice at your door weeks later. So before anything else: with Mililab, there is no surprise. Every ENWA piece ships DDP — and here is exactly what that means.
What "DDP" means
DDP stands for Delivered Duties Paid. It's a standard international shipping term — one of the Incoterms — and it's the most buyer-friendly one there is. Under DDP, the seller takes responsibility for getting the goods all the way to your door: export paperwork, freight, import clearance, and all import duties and taxes.
In plain words: the price you see is the price you pay. Nothing extra is collected when the piece arrives.
DDP vs the alternative (DDU / DAP)
The opposite of DDP is DDU / DAP — Delivered Duties Unpaid. Under that model, the price at checkout covers shipping but not import duties; those are billed to you by the courier or customs when the item lands. That's where the dreaded surprise invoice comes from.
- DDU / DAP: you pay duties on arrival — amount unknown until it lands.
- DDP (what Mililab uses): duties already included — nothing to pay on arrival.
If a furniture seller doesn't say "DDP" or "duties included," it's worth asking before you buy.
How it works when you order from Mililab
Each step is handled on our side:
- You order at one price. Shipping and duties for your country are already accounted for — no separate duty estimate to chase.
- We build your piece to order in Tokyo over 8–12 weeks. It's made for you, not pulled from a warehouse.
- We handle export, freight, and customs clearance, including paying the import duties into your country.
- It arrives at your door with nothing further to pay.
Where we ship
Mililab ships DDP to 34 countries across the US, Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Asia-Pacific. If you're not sure your country is covered, ask us before ordering and we'll confirm.
Why we do it this way
We sell direct — no dealer network, no retail markup, no "enquire for trade pricing." A single honest price, duties included, is the natural extension of that. You shouldn't need a customs broker to buy a dining table.
