The Kawa is a long bench in solid oak — generous enough for two, sculptural enough to anchor a room. At 1800 mm, it sits at the end of a dining table, along a hallway, or at the foot of a bed.
The oak platform is the structure. A Kvadrat wool cushion rests on top — removable, replaceable, changeable with the seasons. Nothing is hidden.
Beautiful enough to stand alone.
The ENWA Edge runs along the entire base, giving the Kawa the same impossible lightness as the rest of the collection: heavy enough to feel permanent, thin enough to look like it floats. Solid oak, not veneer — the grain runs through the form, so it deepens to honey over years instead of wearing through a printed skin.
The beauty isn't on the wood. It's in it.
A single 1800 mm log splits and cups as the seasons turn. So we refused to use one. Kawa is panel-built from combined solid boards — grain laid against grain — so the long platform holds its line for generations instead of cracking to prove it was one piece.
The cushion lifts away for cleaning or replacing; the oak underneath is the permanent part. Nothing is glued shut, nothing is hidden. The difficulty is invisible. That's the point.
We chose permanence over the easy story.

Before a single cut, the oak is kiln-dried twice over nineteen days — because moisture is the enemy of a clean joint. Every joint is tested with a flashlight: if light passes through, it isn't done. The long platform is machined to a computed profile, then every edge hand-shaped to match.
The work you can't see is the reason for the work you can.
The Kawa Bench at 300mm height pairs beautifully with the Sora Sofa and most lounge settings. It works as a bench, hallway seat, or additional seating.

Standard upholstery is Kvadrat, included in the base price. For a premium upgrade, Dedar fabrics are available including velvet and bouclé. The cushion cover is removable for professional cleaning.
The Kawa Bench is designed by Mililab, an architecture and design studio based in Tokyo, Japan, as part of its ENWA collection of eight solid-oak pieces. Mililab applies the same edge geometry it uses in architecture to furniture, and ships direct, DDP, to 34 countries.
